Area Rug Cleaning

Rugs are not wall-to-wall carpet. We check the fiber and dyes before anything gets wet.

With a carpet clean, or on its own

We clean area rugs in the same visit as your carpet, or on their own.

Fiber and dye first

Wool, synthetic, cotton, viscose, and jute all clean differently, and some dyes bleed the moment they get wet. Before cleaning we check what the rug is made of and test the colors on a corner. If a rug is not safe to wet clean, we say so before we start, not after.

Rugs that need a specialist

Antique, silk, and valuable hand-knotted rugs are best washed by a dedicated rug washer who can soak and dry them in a controlled room. If yours is one of them, we will tell you.

Underneath matters too

Rugs trap grit that grinds the floor beneath them. While a rug is up, we can clean the carpet under it as well.

Pets and rugs

Pet urine goes straight through a rug and into whatever is under it. If that is the problem, see pet stain and odor removal.

Questions we get asked

Can you clean wool rugs?

Most, yes, with a wool-safe solution and low heat.

What about viscose or art silk rugs?

Viscose browns and stains easily when wet. We look at it first and tell you honestly whether cleaning it is a good idea.

Can you get pet urine out of a rug?

Often, depending on the fiber and how many times the same spot has been hit. We will tell you what to expect after we have looked at it.

Do you clean the fringe?

Yes. Fringe is cleaned by hand, gently, since it is part of the rug's foundation.
